Woven Crochet Simple Coasters Tutorial

The coasters, I mentioned, in the last post(Meshy Scarf) are ready to be shared, along with a brief tutorial.

To make coasters, pick your yarns and appropriate hook. First make a mesh.
Ch 19.
DC in the 5th chain(counting as first DC and a chain).
Skip one chain and DC in next, Ch1. Repeat till the end.

Ch4 and turn.
DC in the first DC, Ch1. Repeat till you have eight rows.
So, now we have eight rows and eight columns.

Without cutting the yarn, ch1 and 2 SC in the same corner space.
Now make 2 SC in each space, till you reach the corner. For corners, make( 2SC, Ch1, 2SC).
Continue till you reach the point where you began. Make 2 SC, Ch1, and join with slip stitch to the first SC.
You are done with the mesh.

Now, with the contrasting color, make a chain of around 150. Keep the chains a little tighter than usual. Without cutting the yarn, start weaving through the mesh(refer the pictures below).

When you are done with the weaving cut the yarn and fasten off, leaving a little tail. Weave the yarn in the chains. I weave it through the ribs of chain.

And when you reach mesh, take your needle into the mesh. I think this will help in keeping the mesh and the chain intact.

This is the back side.

And this is the front.

I hope you liked the coasters and the tutorial. If you make something out of this pattern then do not forget to share.
Bye :)

Mesh Scarf, With A Twist–Woven Crochet

Yes, my 'mesh scarf with a twist' is nothing but a simple mesh, woven with chains of yarn in contrast. I think its the simplest pattern in crochet, I have ever attempted. You can do this while watching TV, without looking over your work and without missing a stitch. Its very very quick and consumes very very less yarn and the result is an amazing textured fabric.

This scarf was inspired by a Woven Scotch Plaid Afghan, which is, of course bigger and with more colors.
IMG_4654
Instead of chains, you can use more than one strand of yarn or ribbons to weave in the mesh.
IMG_4655
To create mesh, simply make chains for the desired width. Then do ‘DC and Ch1’, across the entire width. Keep on doing this until you get the desired length. You can change the color, if you want to.

I made few coasters too, but with a little more twist. I will share the pictures, along with a short photo tutorial in my next post. I am sure you all are going to love it and make few for yourselves and family and friends. They are quick and look pretty in any color combos.

The Golden Temple

A little glimpse of our recent trip to the Golden Temple, Amritsar(Punjab, India). Golden Temple is a holy place for Sikhs. It has its own very interesting history. If you want you can read a brief article here on Wikipedia.

Did you notice the butterfly in the above picture. I stalked her for so long, but she always preferred these white flowers. May be she was camouflaging from me!

These are my favorite flowers and I find them everywhere I go, but nowhere near my home.

The Highway.
I clicked a lot of pictures on highway and have created an entire set ‘The Highway’ on My Flickr with many more interesting pictures. Check them if you want. I clicked almost everything I found interesting. Most of them were taken from our moving car. So many of them are little blurry but still have that essence of highway.IMG_4307
